First, a little information about fabrics...

Cotton & Linen

Cotton and Linen fabrics are machine washable and should be laundered regularly for the best care and longevity of the product. You may find that many fabrics feel softer as they are washed over time.

Wool and Cashmere

Wool and cashmere do not need to be washed on a regular basis. Should you need to clean these items, they should be professionally laundered by your local cleaner.

Silk

Silk appliquéd items can be machine or hand washed using a mild detergent and cold water. Line dry and iron with low heat or use the silk/delicate setting.

Outdoor Furniture

Remove foam before washing cushion covers. Machine wash with cold water. Do not use bleach. Clean structure once or twice a year by hosing it down and wiping with a soft cloth and mild soap solution. Be sure to remove all soap residues with fresh water after cleaning.

Detergents & Washing...

We recommend a good enzyme non-petroleum detergent for washing cotton and linen fabrics.

Stains

Stains are best treated by applying a liquid stain remover before washing. If there is a tougher stain, apply the stain remover and soak before washing. For cotton and linen, it is best to remove stains with hot water. However, do not use hot water on silk and wool.

Bleach

We never recommend chlorine bleach. Chlorine bleach will weaken any fabric and reduce it's lifespan. If bleaching is required, only use oxygen bleach alternatives which are safe for colors and whites. Never use any bleach on silk or wool.

Machine Washing

  • Pre-treat any stained areas before washing.
  • Wash like colors together or only one set of sheets in the load.
  • We recommend putting any delicate items/constructions (such as decorative buttons) in a mesh washing bag to protect it in the machine.
  • Use the delicate cycle with cold water for any of the products made of silk.
  • Normal washing cycle and warm water can be used with cotton and linen.

Hand Washing

We recommend hand washing items that are silk, embellished or embroidered.
  • Pre-treat any stained areas before washing.
  • Pour room temperature water into a basin along with the item(s) to wash and detergent.
  • Agitate the water and detergent with your hands.
  • Soak for ½ hour (we do not recommend soaking silk longer.)
  • Rinse well.

Drying & Ironing...

Most damage occurs in the dryer vs. the washer. Therefore, we recommend line/air drying, especially for table linens. For bedding, use a low heat low tumble cycle. It is best if items are removed before completely dry to hang to finish. Delicates such as wool, cashmere and silk should never go in the dryer. Wools should be laid flat to dry in shape - do not hang. Lay silk flat or hang to dry. Do not hang silk in direct sunlight while drying.

Fabrics Softeners

We do not recommend using fabric softener products with any Julia B. items. Cotton and linen soften with use and will retain it's natural beauty. Do not use fabric softener on silk and wool.

Ironing

Always fill your iron with distilled water so that calcium build up is avoided in your iron. Ironing is easiest and gentlest on fabrics when the item is damp. You can spray bottle filled with lavender water or simple distilled water to dampen your linens right before you iron. Silk and rayon/polyester should be ironed on a low heat. Ironing these fabrics inside out is always a good idea. When ironing monograms or other detailed embroidery, iron from the back side and on top of a towel. This ensures that the relief of the embroidery is not flattened.

Julia B. products do not really need starch. If you do use starch, use a natural cornstarch based starch. Starch is for cotton and linen only. Never starch silk.

Storing your Linens...

Fabrics should always be stored clean (washed) in a dry place. (Avoid damp attics and basements.) Do not store in plastic; cotton bags and/or acid free paper are best to avoid insects and deterioration. Also, never store cotton and linen that has been starched as this causes yellowing.

Caution

Please be aware that some everyday products, such as face creams and hair products, can discolor and/or permanently stain fabric.

Dry Cleaning

Dry cleaning chemicals are not good for you or Julia B. fabrics. If you prefer to have your linens professionally pressed, take them for pressing only.
